Draper, UT- August 4, 2000 - Learnframe, a leading developer of e-Learning infrastructure technologies, announced the win of their employee team in the "Spudman Triathalon" sponsored by the Burley Idaho Lion's Club. The
Olympic distance triathlon held on Saturday July 29th included a one-mile swim, a 25-mile bike ride and a 6.3-mile run. Two hundred and eighty two individuals and 40 teams of three individuals competed in front of hundreds of spectators for the "Spudman" trophy. The Learnframe team won!
The Learnframe team who placed first included, Nathaniel Dunlap and Jeff Simmons of Salt Lake City, and Uhl Albert of Pleasant Grove. Learnframe employees who completed the entire race on their own are Melinda Fano of Lehi, Mike Kelleher of Draper, Phillip Clark of Sandy.
First place winner in the Spudman Men's Team competition, Uhl Albert, a Category Three United States Cycling Federation rider and Human Factors Engineer for Learnframe, felt confident in his bike leg of the competition yet was surprised at the winning outcome as his coworkers only had a month to prepare.
"I'm always trying to get colleagues who sit in front their computers all day to get off of their behinds and onto their bikes," said Albert. "It was gratifying to work together as a team in a physical competition and the surprise of winning was a fantastic reward."
According to Mike Kelleher, instigator of Learnframe employee participation in the triathlon and Director of Business Development, they organized this event because they wanted to get some exercise and at the same time prove a point.
"'Computer geeks' often have an image of being desk bound," says Kelleher. "We wanted to dispel that misconception, get some exercise and have a great time with the folks we work with day after day."
Melinda Fano, amateur marathon runner and Inside Sales Representative for Learnframe, finished all three legs with perfect cartwheels even though she claimed her first triathlon was tough. "Every time I started a section I was tempted to quit," says Fano. "Yet all of the Learnframe colleagues cheered me on and I just kept going."
According to winning team participant Nathaniel Dunlap, Business Development Manger for Learnframe, his teammates did such a great job of building up team time on the bike and swim legs, that when it came his time for the run there was no pressure.
"All I had to do was trot a few miles through the potato fields to seal the win," said Dunlap.
