Unser, a resident of Hailey, Idaho, is a nephew to four-time 500 winner Al Unser, Sr. and three-time 500 winner Bobby Unser and first cousin to two-time 500 winner to Al Unser, Jr. and two-time 500 starter Robby Unser. He is also the son of the late Jerry Unser who was a starter in the 1958 500.
